Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard has admitted he has spoken to club captain Tyrone Mings and will analyse the leadership role going forward, Birmingham Live report.
Gerrard is gearing up for his first game as Villa manager against Brighton this weekend and revealed that midfielders Douglas Luiz and Morgan Sanson are unlikely to feature.
Meanwhile, Mings, who scored his first goal for England during the international break, will be looking to establish himself back in the side after being dropped by Dean Smith against West Ham shortly before his departure.
Gerrard admitted he would be analysing the captaincy situation going forward and shared details of a conversation with Mings.
He claimed that the centre-back will remain as captain in the short term, hinting at a possible change in the future, should he see fit.
“I spoke to Tyrone on a couple of occasions. Once while he was away with England & once face to face on Tuesday. He will remain captain in short term & will be given every opportunity to impress us & prove he’s the right man for the job.”
