da fazobetai: Chelsea manager Antonio Conte wanted the club to move for Torino star Andrea Belotti ahead of Everton striker Romelu Lukaku, according to the Daily Star.
What’s the story?
da imperador bet: It is not the first time that reports have emerged of Conte feeling frustrated with the club’s board regarding transfer activity.
Now it has been claimed by the Daily Star that the manager has always preferred Belotti to Lukaku, but that owner Roman Abramovich has gone with technical director Michael Emenalo’s choice.
The report adds that Brazilian defender Alex Sandro and Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero were also not on Conte’s wanted list, but the pair are expected to join the Premier League champions.
Despite this, the Italian reportedly has no intention of leaving Chelsea in the lurch, but the issue over transfers is the main reason why he has not penned a new deal yet.
Who is the better striker?
On paper, Belotti would arrive at Stamford Bridge with slightly more impressive statistics than Lukaku given that he worked his way to 28 goals in all competitions last season.
The Everton striker was not too far behind with 26 to his name, but his tally of assists was also fewer at six compared to Belotti’s seven.
Lukaku was a major reason why Everton finished inside the top seven, while his fellow striker’s goals helped Torino to ninth in the Italian top flight.
There is not a huge amount to separate the pair with regards to the facts and figures, but in terms of style, there are differences.
As well as being a strong finisher, Belotti can drop back and help with the defensive contributions when required whereas Lukaku struggles in that area.
The positive for the Everton man, though, is that he has almost six years experience in the Premier League.
Belotti has never played for an English club, so it could take time for the forward to settle if he were to make the move.
